Season of Lent 2024 Devotional- Week Two

Lenten Devotional for February 25th submitted by Susan Greenberg

Longing for Living Water
Get a cup of water and think of something you are thankful for today. Now, take the cup and speak that gratitude into the cup of water. Let the vibrations of your breath move the water a little. Drink from the cup and each time you drink, imagine the water running throughout your body and taking that bit of gratitude along all the different parts of you. Finish the cup of water and throughout the rest of the day, take a moment to pause and consider where those vibrations of gratitude may be sitting inside of you.

“Longing for Living Water” Prayer From United Methodist Discipleship Ministries (From John 4:5–42)

The well is so deep
And the water is so far away
From our parched hands
Our parched throats
Our parched souls….
Drawing
Consuming
Repeated drawing
Repeated thirsting
Drawing again!
God,
Only you can break this cycle
Of filling our souls
With things that can never
Fully satisfy.
Lead us to
Living Water
And quench the thirsting
Of our souls. Amen.

Take another cup of water and say a prayer over the water in the cup. Let your breath move the water in the cup. Set the cup aside for the night. The next morning, consider the prayer being held in that cup of water. Drink the water and repeat that prayer back to yourself in your thoughts, imagining the journey that cup of water will have throughout your body. Consider how God’s Living Water resides in the vibrations of that prayer and what it might mean for you this day.
