Are you troubled by Trump? Would you like to know how you can help to revolutionize American democracy? If so, then join us at Euclid United Methodist for a talk with Michael S. Hogue about his new book, American Immanence: Democracy for an Uncertain World. In this book, Hogue integrates a theology of, by, and for the planet with a radical democratic politics of, by, and for the people. He argues that the Trump presidency represents a new crisis for American democracy, one that has planetary as well as political implications. But he reminds us that crises are also times of opportunity. In place of Trump and the tradition of American exceptionalism he represents, Hogue makes a case for an ecologically attuned, socially just, and spiritually grounded form of “resilient democracy”. Resilient
democracy generates, guides and sustains efforts to enhance social, economic, and environmental justice. By embodying democracy as an empathic, emancipatory, and equitable form of life, resilient democracy offers a hopeful alternative to the antidemocratic politics of the Age of Trump.
